What should I do if I suspect my Piercing is Irritated or Infected?
If your piercing shows signs of Infection, such as swelling, redness, increased pain, warmth and/or unusual discharge (especially green or yellow), it’s essential to seek medical advice as soon as possible. Infections can worsen if not treated promptly, so it's important to act early.
For Minor Irritation, you can clean the piercing with a Neilmed Sterile Saline solution, but avoid using harsh chemicals like alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or tea tree oil as they can irritate the area further.
For Irritation/Trauma Bumps, Studio 6714 recommends the Salt paste method to help heal and reduce irritation bumps. Simply mix a small amount of sea salt (100% Natural) with Saline or warm (clean, filtered) water to create a thick paste, then gently apply it to the bump for 5–10 minutes every 2nd day for up to 2 weeks. This can help draw out any fluid and promote healing. Always ensure the mixture is made up fresh and avoid overuse, as too much salt can irritate the area.
Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly before touching the piercing to prevent introducing any bacteria. If the symptoms persist or worsen, it’s best to consult with a healthcare professional who can properly assess the situation and recommend the appropriate treatment.
