How do I know what size Jewellery I need?

The correct jewellery size is crucial for a comfortable fit and proper healing.

Jewellery length, gauge, and top size will vary depending on the type of piercing and your anatomy.

At Studio 6714, I guide you in choosing the right size to ensure a perfect fit. Check out the graphic below for a quick reference guide on jewellery sizes to help you choose the ideal fit for your piercing.

  • Length refers to the measurement of the jewellery post or bar, typically in millimetres (mm), and is important for ensuring the jewellery fits comfortably. For example, in nostril or lip piercings, you’ll find common lengths vary between 6mm to 10mm.

  • Diameter refers to the distance across a circular piece of jewellery, like a hoop or ring, and is measured from one edge of the ring to the other. Common sizes for nose hoops might range from 6mm to 9mm, depending on the area.

  • Gauge refers to the thickness of the jewellery post or bar. With smaller numbers indicating thicker jewellery (e.g., 14 gauge is thicker than 16 gauge). For most Facial piercings, common gauges range from 18G to 16G, while body piercings like nipple or cartilage piercings may use gauges like 16G to 14G.

  • The Head or Top refers to the 'connector' part of the jewellery that sits on the outside of the piercing and is usually most visible- such as a gem, ball, or other decorative element. The size of the top is typically measured in millimetres (mm) and can vary widely depending on the type of piercing and personal style. For example, a standard ball for a nostril piercing might be 2mm, while a larger gem for a Lobe piercing could be 4mm or more.
