Thread Types

External Threads: These are the most common type of threading used in body jewellery, where the threads are located on the outside of the jewellery post or bar. This design screws into the corresponding threaded end of the jewellery. While durable, external threads can sometimes cause irritation or discomfort as the thread may make contact with the skin - especially during healing.

Internal Threads: The Threads are located inside the jewellery post or bar, and the jewellery's end (such as the ball or gem) screws into it. This design is often preferred for piercings that require a higher level of comfort, as there’s less contact between the threads and the piercing itself. It's also less likely to cause irritation during insertion or removal.

Threadless: Threadless jewelry uses a pin-and-clasp design, where the jewelry end is held in place by tension rather than threading. The post has small, flat grooves that the jewelry's end (often with a flat or prong backing) snaps into. This design eliminates the risk of threads irritating the piercing site and allows for easy insertion and removal, making it ideal for people who change their jewellery frequently.
